News that the planned expansion of Caticlan
Airport which will cover 2 barangays of Nabas has elated residents of this
municipality, which is adjacent to Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.
Caticlan, Malay is a jump-off point to
Boracay Island.
According to Jessica Ignacio, Nabas
Information Officer, 75% of the land to be used in the expansion will be in
Nabas.
The land requirement, according to
Ignacio, will be provided by two Nabas barangays, Union and Rizal.
People from the San Miguel Corporation
have started conducting coordination with the local government of Nabas for the
airport expansion.
San Miguel’s, subsidiary, TransAire
Holdings Corporation currently operates the Caticlan Airport.
Besides a two-storey one of a kind
terminal planned to be built in Nabas, SMC is also planning to build a
boulevard along the coastline of Nabas, Ignacio said.
This development in Nabas is seen to
spur the economic growth of the municipality, and provide employment to its
residents.
Once operational, the SMC assured
LGU-Nabas, headed by Mayor Romeo Dalisay, that their residents will be
prioritized for employment.
Workers needed, as revealed by the SMC,
will be Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) graduates, food and beverage
staff, accountants, company nurses, computer operators, etc.
The SMC also assured the local
government unit that all environmental issues and concerns will also be
considered in the expansion plan.
Just recently, President Benigno S.
Aquino inaugurated the new terminal of the Caticlan Airport.
It also served as his first visit to
