KALIBO, Aklan - Press Secretary Cerge Remonde is the guest speaker of the 112th year death anniversary of the XIX Martyrs of Aklan on March 23 at the Aklan Freedom Shrine here.
Remonde is the former Director General of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) before he assumed his present Cabinet position. This is the second visit of Remonde this March in Aklan and Boracay Island.
The commemoration of the heroism of the Aklan martyrs is a special local holiday in the province of Aklan by virtue of Republic Act No. 7806.
The XIX Martyrs of Aklan who consecrated their lives against the Spanish colonizers are Roman Aguirre, Tomas Briones, Valeriano Dalida, Domingo Dela Cruz, Claro Delgado, Angelo Fernandez, Benito Iban, Candido Iban, Simeon Inocencio, Isidro Jimenez, Catalino Mangat, Lamberto Mangat, Valeriano Masinda, Maximo Mationg, Simplicio Reyes, Canuto Sucgang, Gavino Sucgang, Francisco Villorente and Gavino Yonsal.
Remonde and other Aklan leaders will also lay wreaths at the martyrís tomb after the mass at the Saint John the Baptist Cathedral.
Meanwhile, the weekly Kapihan sa Aklan also celebrates its first year anniversary with Remonde as guest speaker on March 23.
The weekly forum is a no-holds-barred discussion of issues that aims to gauge public sentiments and feel the real pulse of the people. The forum also serves as a feedback mechanism for the government to enable it to strengthen the delivery of vital services to the people and forge stronger and closer rapport.
As press secretary, Remonde will also attend the fellowship of the officers and members of Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc (PAPI) at Boracay Terraces Resort in the famous island of Boracay on March 22 before proceeding to the capital town of Kalibo for the XIX Martyrs of Aklan and the Kapihan sa Aklan anniversary.
Managing director William Arguelles said Remonde's presence in the weekly forum of journalists at Kusina sa Kalibo Restaurant is an honor and prestige to the Aklan Media Forum, PAPI and the Aklan Press Club.
