These projects which were realized in cooperation with Cong. Florencio T. Miraflores include the upgrading of two jetty ports. The construction of the Cagban, Manoc-Manoc Jetty Port Terminal Building was made possible by the Provincial Governorís Office to a tune of P5 million. This is in addition to P50 million released by former Pres. Joseph Estrada for the construction of the said jetty port. The Caticlan Airport was improved with funding assistance from the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) amounting to P32.7 million. Project works include extension of the runway, expansion of the apron, construction of the additional taxiway, provision of the turn-around pads and the rehabilitation and extension of the Terminal Building.
The improvement projects in Kalibo Airport include the release of P5M for the operation of Simple Lighting Approach System or SALS north pf Kalibo Airport runway just across the Kalibo-New Washington National Highway; rehabilitation of 4.5 hectares Kalibo Airport Runway Lights; and installation of Instrument Landing System or ILS which will ultimately allow night navigation.
The Caticlan Port likewise underwent expansion to a tune of P70 million from the Philippine Tourism Authority. The fund was utilized for the construction of R.C. Pier and RORO Ramp, Reclamation Work with Stairlanding, construction of breasting of dolphin and port lighting system. The construction of Yapak-Balabag Main Road worth P17.5 M was made as part of Boracay Circumferential Road.
Provincial Tourism Officer Roselle Q. Ruiz said the repair and rehabilitation of Gov. Corazon L. Cabagnot Tourism and Training Center at Barangay Buswang in Kalibo is ongoing.
As a result of these initiatives, the total tourist arrivals for 2006 surpassed the half a million mark. When translated into tourism receipts, a total of P10.2 billion money value circulated in Aklan in terms of tourism receipts.
